The Change Up Movie Review

Warning: This review contains spoilers so read at your own risk!

Hey there people! Thanks to omy.sg I had the chance to watch the movie titled The Change Up at a preview screening. First of all I must say that this is my very very first movie review and I have to tell you that any pointers would be appreciated! Once again I have to remind you that my review would contain elements of the movie plot so if you have watched the movie and do not want to know too many details, read this review at your own caution!

So what is this movie all about? Simply put it is about two grown men who are actually the best of buddies and whose bodies can switched when they pee into a fountain (with some scary statue staring at them see below) and wished that they had each other lives. Ryan Reynolds plays Mitch Planko, a playboy cum bummer who is basically a quitter in life. Unlike Jason Bateman who plays Dave Lockwood, he is single and basically lives each day as it comes. Dave is a married man with three kids (one elder daughter and a pair of twins) and is also successful in his career (a lawyer who is close to becoming a partner of a law firm).

The fountain that grants your wish

The lives of these two somehow get disrupted after their bodies are switched. Many people would think that this film is a meaningless comedy (which was what I taught about the film at first) but if you stayed in the cinema and watch it to the end, you may realise that you get to learn a bit about life in this movie. Imagine what a life of a family guy with a tough career can do to a single lazy bum and how a fresh look on life can do to a family man.

As anyone one can guess, both worlds of the two men are turned upside down. Dave almost loses a chance at being partner and Mitch almost loses his women (well actually he did but he gained a new one more on that later). But things take a turn for the better and got on so well that they both almost decided that they were pretty comfortable the way things were. Of course they finally realise the importance of being themselves in their own bodies and decide to switch back, but not without some humilation of course. In the end, Dave realises how important his family is to him and how he should spend more time on his wife and children instead of his job and Mitch, well while Dave was inside Mitch, he helped him score a hot babe ala Sabrina played by Olivia Wilde, who is Dave's subordinate. I just love a happy ending!

This is not the reason why this movie is M18 but if you think that is chocolate on his face think again! Watch the movie to find out what happened to Dave's face!

Anyways do note that this movie is rated M18 and there are some shots of nudity in the film. I would feel that even the younger crowd will have something to learn when they watch this movie but I guess the writers want to focus on some adult comedic fun yet want this movie to be meaningful and not just about slapstick humour.

So this is a simple review and I must say that this is a simple movie with a simple plot. Yet it is able to garner plenty of laughs in the audience and maybe some tears as some parts can be real touching. Simple in execution, yet deep in meaning and it definitely will make you rethink what you should do in your life. Watch this movie (I give it 4 stars) and you will not regret it.

Real Steel

Ever heard of this upcoming movie titled Real Steel? Well you just got to catch it because it not only features cool robots that battle each other just like in gladiators, sumo or wrestling (actually more for boxing), you also get to see Hugh Jackman who is not only handsome but ravishing too. While we all might remember his role as Wolverine in the various X-men movies, unfortunately we do not see him wearing a crazy robot suit with long metal claws in this movie. First of all check out the cool movie poster.

Hugh Jackman is Charlie Kenton, who used to be a fighter but his job gets taken over by robots. Sounds like a cure for Singapore's aging population if you ask me. Anyways, together with with son Max (Dakota Goyo), they end up building and training a championship contender. What happens next I do not know unless I get to watch this movie.

If you ask me what main function a Robot that I build must have, I would focus on defensive capabilities like a good shield and armour of some sorts as well as regenerative capabilities. This will make any Robot invincible!

Cars 2 the Sequel to the Great Pixar Movie Cars

Hey there folks! I bet you are itching to watch another animation from Pixar! I was just watching Toy Story 3 on DVD, it is a super fantastic film by the way and I chanced upon this cool new Pixar animation titles Cars 2! If you can recall, Cars was about up and coming hot shot Lightning McQueen who wanted to win the Piston cup, a racing tournament of sorts. By the way do pardon me if I get any of the facts wrong as it has been a while since I watched Cars! Anyways the run-down town of Radiator Springs soon comes alive after set up his headquarters there, helping to put Radiator Springs back on the map.

In Cars 2, Lightning McQueen returns home to Radiator Springs and reunites with his best friend Mater who really helped him out in Cars and girlfriend Sally Carrera. This time instead of the Piston Cup there is the "World Grand Prix" and McQueen is inadvertently drawn into this race. Then the fun starts when American spy car Rod "Torque" Redline enters the World Grand Prix and Mater is mistaken as an American spy as well. Mater manages to figure out that the mastermind behind the evil plot is Miles Axlerod. Mater manages to stop Axlerod's plans and is knighted by the Queen and returns home with his friends.

Do not even get what I am talking about? Making a sneak peak into this trailer will do you some good!

Well anyways I should say that a real spy is never a spy without a good spy name. Rod "Torque" Redline does not sound like a spy name to me. If you ask me if I were a spy, I would want to be called "Audi Towers", Well I guess most people would be able to guess this is a play on the silly spy known as Äustin Powers". Why I played around with this name is to introduce a super spy who not only drives an "Audi" [and hey thats the link to this movie Cars 2 too ;)], in addition, he lives in a sky scraping space tower too! So who does not want to be a cool spy and get a good car with a good place to stay too? Well I should stop rambling and you should start queuing up to buy your tickets for Cars 2!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Well well well people! Guess what movie is coming to the big screens soon? As though we have not had enough of Pirates of Caribbean movies, there is now a new one called Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. So Johnny Depp fans please rejoice as you will get to see him reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth installment of the Pirates and the Caribbean series of movies. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is actually based on a 1987 historical fantasy novel written by Tim Powers. So do not be surprised that this movie will follow the plot of the novel, since Powers sold the film rights for the novel to Disney. Eager fans might want to hunt for the book and have a good read first, but that may also spoil the enjoyment of the movie. Do not fret as Jack Sparrow will be taking over Jack Shandy, the name of the pirate in the book.

Just to provide a sneak peek into the plot, in this piraty episode, we see Captain Jack Sparrow meet a mysterious woman by the name of Angelica who apparently knows something about the fabled Fountain of Youth. Captain Jack Sparrow (perhaps under Angelica's love spell) is forced to board Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, and on this vessel he goes out to seek the Fountain of Youth fighting zombies and mermaids along the way.

The last game is Battle Galleons. If you ask me this is really a game of luck. How it works is that you first choose a Captain (of course I chose Jack Sparrow) and you are to play three rounds of the game. In each player's territory there are three places where you can place your ship. You are to choose which place your ship will be for each of the three rounds as well as indicate where you want your ship to open cannon fire on. So that means you have 1 out of 3 chances to get a hit. Not sure if it is because of the Captain I chose but the first time I tried I got 3 hits and the enemy did not manage to hit me at all! Check out my score above: 3:0!

hey there folks! I got this email from Nuffnang asking if we Nuffnangers would like to take part in this contest to win a pair of movie tickets to I Am Number Four preview screening.

Well I just realised that today is the last day to submit our entries (12th Feb). I would love to do a great post as well as play and complete the “Where is Number Four?” contest but the thing is I am rushing for time (I am going to meet my girlfriend later) and I will be home late so I got to rush this post to get a chance to win these preview tickets.

Home is a place I want to be. Yes, a place to stay for the long term and sink my roots. My home has to be safe and free from all sorts of other disasters. Such a place is not hard to find and I am happy to say that I have found it. Home is Singapore!

In Singapore, we have a stable government and everything runs smoothly like clockwork. People are hardworking and because it is a meritocratic society, those who work hard are rewarded. People are also efficient and take pride in what they do, we have people excelling in their own niche jobs and specialists in every areas. With so many different races and new immigrants from all over the world, the people of Singapore live as one in harmony. Our economy is also strong and competitive.Singapore is also a good place to do business.

We also have a strong military force as well as a good home team that is able to make Singapore a safe and secure home. These people work 24/7 to ensure that Singapore is kept safe from internal and external threats. Citizens of Singapore are just so lucky that they do not even know it.

This is my home. This is my Singapore. And this is the place I want to be.

Disney Tron Legacy Toys

Disney Tron Legacy Toys - Hey there folks! This is yet another post from the mad toy blogger. Basically if you have been paying attention to the entertainment news lately, you would realise that there is a new movie coming up and it is by Disney too! Maybe you are expecting a kid movie but it is more complicated than that. Ever heard of Tron? That was one of the earlier movies by Disney long long ago. Now they have come up with the sequel by the name of Tron: Legacy. I guess this is the best article of my blog yet because my blog is about toys and movies. Tron: Legacy not only is a movie but there are many toys from the movie that you can check out.

Anyways let me talk a little about the movie first and also this new facebook page that I checked out. Tron Legacy is about this guy called Sam Flynn who is a 27-year-old, whose father mysteriously disappeared a long time ago. His father is Kevin Flynn one of the world’s leading video-game developer. If you are a movie script genius it doesn’t take long to figure out that Kevin’s disappearance had something to do with his work. Well Sam tries to get to the bottom of things and investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade, which was set up by his father. Then he gets stuck in this a signal digital world which his father had created and was stuck in for the past 20 years. So in this movie you get to experience the journey of both father and son as they traverse this cyber universe. Not to forget their brushes with a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape!

I also had the privilege to check out the Tron Legacy facebook page and play one of the cool games known as “Get on the Grid”. Checkout a screenshot of the game below! For your information there are also two other games known as “Tron Arena” and “Photo Booth”.

In gist, this game lets you upload your own photo and then creates a new movie with you starring as one of the individuals in the Tron universe. I know it sounds a bit silly but they actually even add in special effects such that you see your own mouth moving when you are talking. So it is pretty cool. In this picture you can probably see the face though it is not very clear. That said, I almost forgot about these Tron Legacy Disney toys! Check out the various Tron Legacy toys including action figures of Sam, vehicles in the movie such as the light cycle or even remote controlled Tron cars! You can also get Sam's Identity Disc and Light Disc if you intend to do some real roleplay instead of just uploading your photo. And there are also other authentic Tron Legacy toys that you can get too.

World’s Coolest Intern

Hey there!

This is crazy and out of this world but the reason I am blogging this topic is because I want to be the World's coolest intern! That is right because just today I received this email from Nuffnang saying that they are looking for the World's coolest intern! Not only will the winner be given an internship at Standard Chartered, which is one of the coolest banks around, the person will also be rewarded with $30,000 for 6 months work! Hell that is almost better than my pay for half a year! Now if only I just graduated because if I get this internship I would have to quit my current job, which is crazy!

So why should I be the coolest intern?

(a) Tweetdeck and Facebook are the first things to greet me in the morning and the last things I say good night to (hmmm where have I seen this sentence)

(b) I would love to be trained in social media and online engagement

(c) I got passion, a thirst for learning, and really fast thumbs to keep up with all the Tweeting and Facebooking (strange this sentence looks familiar too)

(d) I am raring to go and hope to be one of the 10 best entries and get an $80 cash prize. Hell I even want to be one of the first 50 entries to get $20! Of course I would rather work 6 months and get the $30k but I don't mind a $100 reward!!

Zac Efron’s Latest Movie – Charlie St. Cloud

Well hello there again folks! Check out one of the latest movies from Hollywood where cutie pie Zac Efron of High School Muscial fame stars as a leading actor. If you are a big fan of Zac Efron, I am sure that you just cannot wait to catch this movie! This movie is titled "Charlie St. Cloud". Like many great movies these days, Charlie St. Cloud is based on a popular novel, by the name of "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud".

Charlie St. Cloud is about a romantic story and Zac Efron stars as a young man named Charlie St. Cloud who survives an accident. He is an accomplished sailor who has the adoration of mother Claire and little brother Sam, as well as a college scholarship to Stanford. Unfortunately, both he and his brother were involved in an accident. While Charlie St. Cloud escaped death, his brother was not so fortunate. Before the accident, Charlie had promised that he would practise baseball with his brother everyday before he left for Stanford. Now after the accident, he seems to be stuck in a world where his brother is still alive, and he can't bear to leave this world due to the promise he made to his brother. his bright future is cut short when a tragedy strikes and takes his dreams with it. Things take a turn after his high-school classmate Tess returns home unexpectedly, and Charlie starts to fall in love with her. He then has to decide whether to let go of the past or to hang on to whatever is left of his brother.

Now I would like to answer this question: “Who would you like Charlie St. Cloud (Zac Efron) to choose – his brother or the girl he likes? And why?” Well the answer to this one is pretty obvious. Charlie should move on with his life. His brother is already dead and there is no use clinging to the past. Fate has brought him together with Tess and he should not throw that away just because he made a promise to his brother and he cannot forget his brother. So my advice to Charlie is this: Let go of the past and seize the future!

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Hello there folks! Once again welcome to my blog! Today's topic is about the upcoming movie The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. If you are a Jerry Bruckheimer fan, you just have to watch this film! For your info, Jerry Bruckheimer is the guy who brought you movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, CSI, Prince of Persia, National Treasure and many other cool flicks! Now this new movie is about the adventures of a sorcerer and his hapless apprentice who are swept into the center of an ancient conflict between good and evil. Who better than Nicolas Cage to star in the film, having worked with both producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turteltaub. He stars as a master sorcerer named Balthazar in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath, played by Alfred Molina. Balthazar recruits Dave Stutler (played by Jay Baruchel) as his apprentise and teaches him the art of magic and together take down the bad guy.

If you are a sorcerer’s apprentice, what would you use your powers for?

If you ask me, it would be quite impossible to be a sorcerer's apprentice in this day and age, but it would sure help you get ahead alot in life if you have got special powers. First of all, I would want to use my powers for good and not for evil. The powers should also not be used for monetary gain, though sometimes it can be nice to create wealth for the poor! But I guess the best is to use those powers to protect Earth from evil. Better still if the powers can be used to stop natural disasters or stop global warming! Anyways....

Know more about Cervical Cancer

Needless to say, Cervical cancer is about cancel of the cervix. I hope you guys know where the cervix is! The cervix (or neck of the uterus) is the lower, narrow portion of the uterus where it joins with the top end of the vagina. Most importantly, one should know the signs and symptoms of cervical cancer, which is what I wish to educate people here about. During the early stages of cervical cancer, you may not observe any signs or symptoms. However do take note if you observe the following: Vaginal bleeding, contact bleeding or (rarely) a vaginal mass may indicate the presence of malignancy. Moderate pain during sexual intercourse and vaginal discharge are also symptoms of cervical cancer.

Those who are more at risk include female smokers, women with multiple sex partners, women who have started having sex at a young age, say around 12 years old as well as women who have had sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia or syphillis. As long as you have been sexually active, you are actually more prone to be at risk of cervical cancer!

Do you also know that the Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus which is closely linked to cervical cancer? Nearly 70% of cases of cervical cancer involve HPV. Hence one prevention of cervical cancer is to get vaccinated against HPV. Then you can also practise safe sex by using condoms. Go for regular pap smear screening to detect cervical cancer. This is most important during the early stages when there are no signs and symptoms.

I want to watch Toy Story 3!

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my Bargain Toys Cheap Toys blog! For today's post, I would be writing about the upcoming movie Toy Story 3! Yes that is right, after a successful Toy Story and Toy Story 2, here comes Toys Story 3 and best of all there is the 3D Toy Story 3 version! Say hello to Woody, Buzz and your favourite gang of toy characters!

To give you some idea of the plot without revealing too much, we all know that the owner of the Toy Story toys, Andy, would grow up someday. In this third Toy Story instalment, Andy is preparing for college and a whole host of wacky and funny things happen to the toys. Before I get everybody more excited, perhaps we can check out the trailer below first:

If you ask me which Toy Story 3 characters do I like, I would have to say that my favourite would be Mr Potato Head. Mr Potato Head is a toy consisting of a plastic model of a potato. On this potato there are special structures that allow you to attach other plastic parts such as ears and eyes to make a face on the potato. Mr Potato head has not only appeared in Toy Story but also in Toy Story 2 with Mrs Potato Head. In Toy Story 3, be prepared to meet both Mr and Mrs Potato Head again.

If you have watched the above trailer, needless to say my favourite scene in the trailer is when Mr and Mrs Potato Head are seated together but their plastic parts such as their eyes hands and legs have all come off and got mixed up and they are trying hard to put themselves together again.

Besides the old characters, Toy Story 3 comes with plenty of new characters, one of my favourites of which is Ken. In the previous Toy Story movies, we have seen Barbie. It is great that she finally finds her other half. More interestingly, Ken seems to have a confused identity and thinks that he is a boy’s toy instead of a girl’s doll or even worse, a Barbie accessory. Cheap Naruto Toys Contest

Hello my dear fellow readers! It has been a while since I set up this cheap toys blog, which mainly features cheap childrens toys. I have to admit that I have been busy, and it is tough to maintain this blog and regularly add toys which can be found online at a bargain. Sometimes, I feel that this blog is a failure but seriously I am not very sure how many of you are actually reading my blog and really buying cheap toys from my blog. My blog caters to cheap toys for kids, if only all those kids out there are surfing my cheap toys bargain toys blog!

Well that may just be a dream but you will never know.

Anyway I have decided to do some promotion for my blog. I hope that through this promotion, not only more people would know about my blog and maybe also frequent my blog. Recently, a friend of mine, knowing that I am a Naruto fan, ordered this cheap naruto toy from Amazon. Now wait, let me rephrase that, this naruto toy isn't really a cheap naruto toy, because the last time I checked Amazon, it is retailing it at US$115. You can view the details of this naruto toy here, which is a Naruto: Gaara Sand Coffin Statue. I am attaching the picture below for you all to see.

Let's just say that I didnt really fall in love with this toy. It is however in perfect condition and still boxed up. The picture of the gaara naruto statue was taken from Amazon. I have decided to give this statue to one lucky winner who frequents my blog. The rules are very simple:

Petimo: World’s First Social Networking Robot - Cheap Kids Toys?

Now this is an interesting find. Chanced upon the Petimo Toy Robot, supposedly the world’s first social networking robot! I am not sure if the toy robot would end up as a cheap toy (I would update my readers on the price once they are made known), but it sure looks cool and definitely a world's first! The Petimo Toy Robot is developed by a team led by Associate Professor Adrian Cheok from the Keio-NUS CUTE Centre. Now the Petimo may still be at its prototype state, but it has already shown great potential! Before I explain this toy in detail, maybe you would want to take a look at how this toy looks like:

Pretty cute if you ask me right? And this is just an example, the robots come in different shapes, sizes and maybe even characters! The Petimo Toy Robot is built with a furry exterior, which feels like animal skin, and has a small round physical shape, providing a warm and tender feeling of a baby animal. Doesn't it look cuddly? I'm sure children will find it friendly, lovable and adorable! Oh, and the Petimo is designed specially for children between the ages of 7 to 9 years old.

Now what is this toy robot all about and how does it link to "social networking"? As younger children are more exposed to the internet these days, it has also become more likely for them to join social networks to make friends or use them to keep in touch with their friends in the real world. However, as everybody knows, cyberspace is not a safe place for kids. Thus some researchers had the idea of introducing a toy robot, known as Petimo, that would would not only be a fun cheap toy (well I certainly hope it would be cheap!) but would also protect the children from the dangers of the online world.

Basically, the Petimo Robot Toy was designed with the main aim in mind to protect children from potential risks in social networks and the virtual world. This is done by bringing the online world into the real world through the use of the Petimo Toy Robot, which instead of being an avatar in the online world, acts as a avatar in the real world. Thus if a child wishes to add a friend in the online world, which is called Petimo World, the two Petimo Toy Robots owned by the two kids have to physically touch each other. The proximity requirement increases safety and thus adds a new physical dimension to social networking. In addition, this prevents strangers from making friends with the children. Petimo can thus be used to connect kids to any social network but at the same time protect the child from it. Just look at the diagram below to get a better understanding:

With the use of the Petimo Toy Robot, children experience enhanced relationships with their friends through interactions in the real and virtual world by sending gifts and emoticons mediated by the robots with haptic, visual, and audible events. Now thats cool! The toy robot is the link to the kid's online world! In addition, interactions with the Petimo Toy Robot not only includes touching but also squeezing, thus allowing children to interact with the robot more closely and improving their emotional relationship with the robot. The Petimo Toy Robot can also be used by teachers to promote social interaction among children in class! According to Assoc Prof Cheok, he mentioned more features will be added to the Toy Robot. These include touch-screen functions, new types of covers or skins for the outer finish of the robot as well as a whole range of applications that include games and intuitive features like 3-G technology and more.

The 3D virtual world known as "Petimo World" has social networking capabilities and was designed based on Japanese popular “Kawaii” (cute) culture. In Petimo World, the cute virtual characters are linked to the physical Petimo Robotic Toy, and while the children are playing with their friends through Petimo physically, the virtual characters interact with each other in the online world accordingly! The Petimo World also provides the capability for parents to supervise their children’s online behavior through its parental authentication module which enhances not only children’s online security but also the relationship between children and parents. For example, all tentative friend additions are queued in the parental authentication module for approval and a notification is sent to the parents informing them about the awaiting friend requests. This feature bridges the missing moral link between parents and children in the virtual world. Cool!

Together, Petimo and Petimo-World would act as new tools to cultivate positive social behaviour towards computing environments among young children/kids. The Petimo Toy Robot has already been selected by an international review panel as one of the best three submissions for the Como for Children (C4C) design competition held at The 8th International conference on Interaction Design and Children (IDC 2009). In one of my previous posts, I have mentioned about some cool old Transformers Encore Toys selling at a discount on Amazon. The Invention of Lego - Just what I need - Some cheap Lego Toys!

Now if you are a toy lover, you should never never ever leave lego out, because it is one of the most fantastic toys ever invented! In my cheap toys bargain toys blog, I will definitely be writing posts on cool and cheap lego toys I find any such good cheap lego toys online! So far I have already got a few posts on lego. I have talked about how much I loved cheap lego toys when I was a kid and also wrote a post on a cheap lego star wars toy.

Let me give Lego its due credit by talking a little about the origins of Lego. Basically, lego was created in 1932 and in Denmark. If you still don't know lego comes from Denmark, I would be very disappointed with you! Ok back to the story. So in 1932, there was this guy called Ole Kirk Christiansen, who was a master carpenter and joiner in the village of Billund, Denmark. He had a business making stepladders, ironing boards and most importantly wooden toys.

In 1934, Ole Kirk Christiansen called his company LEGO, which was formed from the Danish words "LEgGOdt" which means "play well". 1949 was the first year in which the company produced about 200 different plastic and wooden toys and bricks. These bricks would be the predecesor of today's Lego bricks. At that time, the toys were only sold in Denmark.

In 1958, Ole Kirk Christiansen invented the current LEGO stud-and-tube coupling system. This was the component which allowed Lego bricks to combine together and also to break up when force is applied. This invention was patented and also resulted in millions of combinations between the great number of Lego Bricks.

In 1962, Lego toys were finally introduced in the United States. Lego suddenly expanded in a big way. In 1969, the Duplo line of big bricks were created for babies and young children while in 1977, the Technic was created for older kids, teenagers and maybe geeks. I have a model Technic airplane, but I guess I missed the Duplo phase of lego when I was young. Lego even became a toy that can "develop the child's critical judgment, manual dexterity, and ability to think for himself."

And that is the brief history of Lego. I would also like to add that with the advent of the internet, Lego further made use of it to create more Lego sets, with people from all over the world submitting their best creations. Lego toy kits were also created for many genres, such as movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc. There are also many Legolands and many Lego exhibitions showing life size objects but made up of Lego bricks. The lego world is just amazing!

Well now I shall continue to do some honour to the cheap toys that I had as a kid a long long time ago. Well guess here are my next two top 10 cheap toys (cheap or not u decide) that I had as a kid. These cheap children toys are my very very good favourites:

3. Transformers

Now this toy needs no introduction. Currently still very active in the market with movies (another new movie coming up this year known as Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen) still being produced. But if you ask me, you cant compare those new Transformers toy to those of yesteryear. Since when did Megatron morf into a T Rex? Totally not my style....Oh by the way, if you still own some of these old toys, dont think they cant be considered cheap toys now as Im sure there are many collectors out there...cheap become expensive....great deal! Especially if they are still in the box and upopened! Super valuable!

Megatron the bad guy or megatron the ugly beast....u choose! If u ask me I still prefer the gun!

4 Ghostbusters

Yet another name that needs no introduction. Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddmore fight ghosts with trusty sidekick Slimer! Dont think they still selling these toys now. Collectors items again! Where did those toys which I have last time go? Last movie was so long ago in 1984 believe it or not! Remember the toy when they even had a real size ghostbuster proton pack...those were the days man! Not to forget marshmellow man.... and the music....WHO DO YOU CALL? GHOSTBUSTERS.......

Anyways, I understand that there is also a new Ghostbusters movie coming out soon. Hopefully this would mean that there would be a revival of Ghostbusters toys! Let's pray hard that this wish would come through! News Post - New Rules on Toys Could Spell Doom

Looming federal regulations that could force used-item retailers and thrift stores to trash many children's toys and clothing are getting a second look from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The regulations, passed under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act in August and set to go into effect Feb. 10, are aimed at eliminating lead-tainted cheap toys designed for children 12 and younger. They require all such products — clothes, toys and shoes — be tested for lead and phthalates, the chemicals used to make plastics pliable.

The main issue for retailers is the costly testing, which can run from about $400 for a small item to thousands of dollars for larger toys with multiple pieces, according to Kathleen McHugh, president of the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association.

Toys not tested would be deemed hazardous whether they contain lead or not, under the wording of the law.

Abby Whetstone, owner of Twice as Nice Kids in Denver, said consignment stores such as hers would not be able to afford expensive lead tests.

"It would affect every piece of inventory we have," Whetstone said. "We're a little terrified at this point."

The Consumer Product Safety Commission voted this week to work on exemptions to the regulations and evaluate the way they could impact sales from consignment shops, online retailers and even yard sales.

"We are working on a 30-day comment period where we will hear from consumers, manufacturers, retailers, anybody affected by the act," commission spokesman Scott Wolfson said. The review won't be finished by Feb. 10, but the law will still go into effect that day, he said.

Wolfson said there are some obvious holes in the act, which the commission will seek to fill.

Lara Lang, who has helped run consignment sales which raise between $25,000 and $30,000 a year for the Hermitage United Methodist Church preschool in Nashville, says the concept of protecting children is good, but she was critical of the act.

"How on earth are they going to enforce that? They can't. There are people who have yard sales. Are they going to police those?" she asked.

The changes would also affect toy wholesalers and distributors such as Challenge & Fun, a Massachusetts-based company that imports most of its products from Europe. Company co-owner Rob Wilson said he'd have to cut his 500-product line to 20 or 30 to meet the requirements. "Even there, if I have to spend $20,000 or $30,000 on testing, that's a big hit," he said.

Goodwill Industries International, among the charities that could be affected, is waiting for clarification before it starts changing the way it does business, spokeswoman Charlene Sarmiento said.

Carrie Weir, who owns Web-based Los Pollitos Dicen, a children's clothing line specializing in T-shirts, would be hit both as a clothing designer and a parent.

"We all want regulations to make sure our children our safe, but this law goes too far," Weir said.

Some Bargain Cheap Toys I had when I was a Kid

Well after my initial introduction on my cheap toys blog, guess I will start my blog rolling by introducing some cheap toys that I bought (well actually my dad bought hehe) long time ago when I was a kid. Well guess here are my top 10 cheap toys (cheap or not u decide) that I had as a kid. Lets start with 2 type of toys first, shall we? One is definitely a cheap toy but the other is not so cheap.

1. Lego

Lego is a branded toy and sometimes can be quite expensive especially for those bigger and more elaborate Lego sets, however I can say that when I was young there were occasions when they went at a bargain, and you can actually buy Lego toys at a bargain! There are all sorts of Legos out there actually, there are some more for adults such as the Technik Lego sets, then there are the bigger blocks for babies such as Duplo. My blog will be concentrating more on toys for kids and children, and also some for collectors though. Anyways, like I said, it is possible to find Lego toys for cheap prices. Not only talking about the smaller sets but also those bigger ones which can be bought at a bargain when there is a discount or sale! I always look forward to sales and it is only at such times when you can buy toys for cheap. My family is unfortunately not well to do, but my parents do love me very much, and I can say that I am blessed to have many toys! I do not mind if they were toy bargains, it is still the same toy. And I really liked Lego! (I mean I still love them!) The Lego toy is still one of the more successful toy genres now. I do think that it deserves a mention here as I really loved it as a kid and I had quite a number of Lego sets! Well I will try to introduce some Lego cheap toys in my future posts so stay tuned! PS that pirate ship below? My cousin had one! I had a blue good guy ship....

2. Mask

Not sure if you guys can remember this one. Sort of feel that all these old toys were brought out from cartoons! Well if you cant remember, these mask characters each had masks with special powers! And each had an ordinary vehicle that can turn into a fighting machine! One of the cooler toys back then if u ask me. And these were cheap toys! The link to the website is pretty cool featuring most of the toys that Mask produced. Hey I had most of those toys in the picture as a kid you know!

Mask is really one of those cool cheap kids toys that every kid would fall in love with. I remember toys in the olden days would usually have a cartoon. It is actually this cartoon that creates the hype and causes kids to want those toys that are featured in the cartoon. It wasn't hard to find cheap toys for kids in the olden days, because most toys were generally cheap! And there would be many advertisements of the cheap toys in the cartoon itself, bombarding the audience, which is predominantly children and kids, with the idea they that have to own these toys. And sometimes, the advertisements would feature special limited time offers, this would cause the consumers to act quickly and buy quickly! How is that for a marketing strategy.
